GUIDE FOR SEAT COVERS
- YEAR OF PRODUCTION
Car models often have faceliftings, redesigns or inbetween lines, which can be significantly different from original model, so exact year of production is neccesary for ordering seat covers.
- VERSION
With some car brands (like VW) version is important because with versions come different shape of seats (for example in VW in same model and same year of production versions can be comfortline/highline/sportline with very different front seats or other details).
- NUMBER OF DOORS
It is important to know how many doors vehicle has. If there are 3 doors, there are additional holes for handles that are used for folding front seats, and they are not present in cars with 4 (sedan) or 5 doors (hatchback, station wagon).
Regarding 4 or 5 doors, in some models it is important to identify it correctly, especially if there are both versions available for the same model (sedan and hatchback). Models that with lifting trunk doors, rear glass part of the door (window) also raises with doors choose 5 doors (HB/Station wagon). For models where doors lifts but glass part of the door (window) stayes in place, choose 4 doors (sedan).
- FRONT SEATS
Front seats can be normal, sporty, full sport (recaro), ergonomic, airplain (in one piece with headrests).
- FOLDABLE TABLES ON BACK SIDE OF SEATS
Foldable tables for passengers in rear seats are most commonly on backside of front seats, they look like airplain tables for food, drink or small items that can be lifted or folded as desired.
- HEADRESTS
Shape of headrests should be correctly identified when ordering custom fit car seat covers. Front headrests can be SANDWICH headrests (mostly in Renault models), they can be folded and expanded. Headrests can be UNREMOVABLE, they cannot be removed from upper seats, and can be only adjusted by height. So, when making and installing seat covers there has to be sufficient hole with Velcro, so seat cover can be mounted over this type of unremovable headrests. Headrests can also be in one piece with the seat, like airplane seats. And headrest can be normal usual most common headrests.
Rear headrests can be normal, submersible, lowered, unremovable, and other.
- POCKET ON BACKSIDE OF FRONT SEATS
Pockets on backside of front seats for passengers travelling in rear seats can be made out of seat cover material, but this should be additionally requested in note in the order.
- FRONT PASSENGER UPPER SEAT FOLDABLE INTO TABLE FOR DRIVER
In delivery vehicles or minivans, it is possible that front passenger upper seat could be foldable into table for driver. It means that backside of passenger seat can have plastic table, or it can entirely be out of molded plastic with cup holders and similar.
- ARMRESTS
Front armrests, between driver and passenger, can be freestanding (not connected to upper seats), or connected to driver or passenger seats, which is important difference when mounting seat covers. Armrests can be coted by fabric, or can be made out of plastic.
Rear armrests can be in the middle part of upper seat (not full height), they can be in full height of upper seat, they can have ski openings, cup holder and similar.
- THIRD (MIDDLE) SEAT BELT IN REAR UPPER SEAT
Look for third (middle) seat belt in rear upper seat, the one for passenger sitting in the middle. If there is one, look if it coming out of upper seat (then there should be a hole in seat cover also), or if it is coming out of the roof or trunk space (then it is not important for seat cover).
- FRONT SEATS HAVE PLASTIC BACKSIDE
Front seats can have backside coated in fabric like the rest of the seat, or it can be plastic. If it is plastic, it is not covered by seat cover, and should be correctly selected when ordering.
- AIRBAG
Airbag in lateral side of upper front seats can be hidden under fabric or visible as a plastic part of seats.
- FOLDABILITY
Rear upper or lower seats can be foldable in two or three parts. If it is divided in two parts, it can be in ratio 1/3+2/3, and bigger part (2/3) can be behind driver or passenger. It can also be divided in three parts, 1/3+1/3+1/3. Take a good look at both upper and lower seats, especially in vans or station wagons where both are foldable.
- REAR POLES ON SIDES
Some models of personal vehicles come with two versions of rear upper seats, with and without poles on the sides of upper seats.
- NUMBER OF SEAT ROWS
First seat row is the one with driver and passenger next to driver. Second seat row is the one behind driver and so on. Number of rows is often important in vans, but also some personal vehicles come in two versions, with or without third seat row. When vehicle has 3 seat rows, first two rows are different than the ones in vehicle originally with two seat rows because of the handles for folding second seat row and accessing third seat row.
- ISOFIX
Isofix is a system for fastening and attaching child seats for vehicle seats. Isofix can be a part of rear upper or rear bottom seat. Or it can be exactly in between upper and bottom seat, and in this case, it is not important for seat covers and there are no holes for it. Isofix can also be in front passenger seat.
